Navigating Conflicting Advice and Information About Pregnancy and Childbirth

Alright ya’ll, today we’re diving into something I know so many women struggle with when they are having a baby: the overwhelm of all the conflicting advice and information they get about pregnancy and childbirth.

When you’re pregnant, it seems like everyone—from your grandma to the lady at the grocery store—has something to say, right?! & While they mean well, it can all get pretty overwhelming. So, how do you sort through all this without losing your mind? Let’s talk about it.

First things first, feeling overwhelmed is completely normal. Pregnancy is a huge deal, and everyone wants to share their two cents. But remember, your journey is unique, and what worked for someone else might not be right for you.

You have an amazing tool at your disposal—your intuition. Trust yourself and your body. If some advice doesn’t sit right with you, it’s okay to let it go. You know more than you think!

Ask all the questions you have. Your provider is there to help you. Write down your questions before appointments and don’t leave until you’re comfortable with the answers. Better yet - download this huge list of questions to consider and take them to your next appointment!

Having a birth plan can really help you feel more in control. Outline your preferences for pain management, labor positions, and any other important details. Discuss this with your provider so everyone’s on the same page.

Take care of your mental and emotional health. Practice mindfulness, meditation, and relaxation techniques to keep stress levels down. Self-care isn’t a luxury—it’s a necessity.

To wrap up, it’s totally okay to feel overwhelmed, but remember, you have the power to filter out the noise. Trust your intuition, choose reliable sources, communicate with your provider, create a birth plan, and practice self-care.
